Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days

“Side Hustle,” Guillebeau teaches you how to get your side hustle idea out into the world and make a profit in less than 30 days.
The following excerpt is provided exclusively for StartupNation from “Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days” Copyright © 2017 by Chris Guillebeau, Crown Business.

WEEK 1: BUILD AN ARSENAL OF IDEAS

A side hustle has many benefits, but it all starts with the right idea. This first week of hustling will teach you how to generate hustle ideas that actually work.
Day 1: Predict the future
The path from idea to income begins with your answer to an important question: Twenty-seven days from now, what will be different about your life?
Day 2: Learn how money grows on trees
Some hustle ideas are better than others. Learn the three qualities of a great idea and how to find ones with the most potential.
Day 3: Brainstorm, borrow or steal ideas
Using what you’ve learned about high-potential ideas, brainstorm, borrow or steal at least three possibilities for your hustle.
Day 4: Weigh the obstacles and opportunities of each idea
Now that you have several ideas, examine them more closely to understand their pros and cons.
Day 5: Forecast your profit on the back of a napkin
To estimate the profit of your side hustle, you don’t need a finance degree or a scientific calculator. You just need a napkin, a pen and the power of observation.

WEEK 2: SELECT YOUR  BEST IDEA

Once you have multiple ideas, you need to be able to identify the best ones. Learn how to instantly rank and compare ideas so that you’ll have confidence to proceed with the highest possible odds of success.
Day 6: Use the side hustle selector to compare  ideas
Once you start thinking about side hustles, the ideas don’t stop. This tool will show you how to apply “Tinder for Hustling” logic to pick the best one at any given time.
Day 7: Become a detective
As you move forward with an idea, study what other people are doing. Then, do it better or do it differently.
Day 8: Have imaginary coffee with your ideal customer
There’s one person out there who meets your profile as the perfect customer. What can you learn from them?
Day 9: Transform your idea into an offer
Once you have a great idea and a specific idea of who it’s for, you need to transform that idea into an offer. An offer includes a promise, a pitch and a price.
Day 10: Create your origins story
Like a comic book superhero, your side hustle needs a history. Don’t just give ’em the facts; tell them a story.

WEEK 3: PREPARE  FOR LIFTOFF

You’ve settled on your idea, you’ve transformed it into an offer, and you know who your ideal customer is. This week you’ll learn how to help that person understand why they can’t live without your offer, without getting bogged down in unimportant details.
Day 11: Assemble the nuts and bolts
Resourcefulness is your most valuable hustle skill. Get all the logistics out of the way so you can focus on more important things.
Day 12: Decide how to price your offer
Pricing can be a challenge even for experienced hustlers. Use the cost-plus model and follow two easy guidelines for much higher odds of success.
Day 13: Create a side hustle shopping list
Your hustle will require specific tools, resources and deliverables. Learn to find, gather or create everything you’ll need to bring your offer into the world.
Day 14: Set up a way to get paid
You’ve got a lot more than just an idea now—you’re well under way to a real-life side hustle. Before proceeding, make sure you’ve also got a real-life way to get paid for it.
Day 15: Design your first workflow
You’re almost to launch week. By listing out your next steps in an ordered fashion, you’ll prevent mishaps and feel more confident.

BONUS STEP
Day 16: Spend 10 percent more time on the most important tasks
Many new hustlers get caught up in mundane details. Avoid that trap from the beginning, and keep your focus on just two things.

And he shows us how to make it happen. In fact, if you follow Chris’s guidance, you can establish your own side hustle in just 5 week. What’s stopping you?”
– Daniel H. Pink, bestselling author of “Drive” and “To Sell is Human”
“There’s a great temptation to assume that side hustles are just for ‘special people,’ like artists, dreamers and 17-year-old computer geniuses. But Guillebeau deftly proves everyone can (and should) have a side hustle. More than that, he shows you how. He is living proof that this book works, and so are the many people who have followed his roadmap.”

“How do founders build ten million and hundred million dollar businesses”-

The Power of Broke

Summary

Most people have problem in starting a business because they don’t have money or good investment to start a business. this is a major problem which most of the people tell me. hence in this video i have shared how you can start a business with money or no investment. actually it is a myth that you can’t start a business/startup if you don’t have money there are many types of alternative ways in which you can start just one thing you need is passion. opm is concept where you can take other people’s money(opm) to start or expand business. angel investors, vc, sharks, crowd funding sites can help alot. but here are 5 main point which you need to understand to be able to start a business with no money

  1. Money problems
  2. Product but leader
  3. Authenticity speaks
  4. Stay hungry
  5. Do research
🔚🔚🔚 Summary 1 🔚🔚🔚

Key Lessons from “The Power of Broke”

1. The Plan to Success
2. Dealing with Debts

3. Phases Your Brand Needs to Go Through Before It Can Go Global

The Plan to Success

  1. Know where you are going: define your goal
  2. Research the market
  3. Stay passionate
  4. Remember that you are the brand. Act like it.
  5. Keep pushing yourself forward.
Dealing with Debts

Do not be scared of debts, since debts are not that easy to avoid.

But, when you do turn a profit, resist the urge to put it back in your business. Instead, use it to pay off your debts, so interest rates do not “eat you up.”

Do not let yourself go under because of debt, as many companies do.

Phases Your Brand Needs to Go Through Before It Can Go Global

  • Item. Initially, you’ll have no name, no logo, no brand and no marketing. Just a product or service that (hopefully) satisfies a need. How good can you make it without money?

  • Label. Once you do give your product a name, customers have something they can remember and ask for. In 1992, Daymond and his four first employees showed up to a trade show they couldn’t even afford the booth at. All five slept in one room, but what they represented was FUBU, not themselves. They managed to collect $300,000 in orders.

  • Brand. A logo, a style, a brand presence all eventually follow. But even here you can be creative. In 1997, LL Cool J, who was once Daymond’s neighbor, pulled another marketing stunt for the brand: he wore his FUBU hat in a commercial he recorded for the GAP and even slipped the brand’s meaning into his rap. That helped a lot, and it was free.

  • Lifestyle. When your brand reaches this status, people are used to good quality and seeing it around, even treat it like a status symbol. The power of broke still works. Apple made their headphones white so everyone would recognize them and that color didn’t cost a dime more than black. You see, no matter where you are in your journey, the creativity of a broke beginner is always available to you. But chances are that’s exactly what you are, which means it’s time to actually begin.

“The Power of Broke” Quotes
  • The easiest thing to sell is truth.
  • Told myself it didn’t matter if my ride didn’t turn heads—it only mattered that it turned things around for me.
  • It’s gotten to where an entire nation can be energized by the force of a single idea put out into the world in a passionate way through social media—at little or no cost.

THE ART OF START 2.0

Guy Kawasaki has done a core dump of his knowledge in this book with his successful business experiences, wisdom of an investor everything is share..

There are two-phase in business
1) Microscopic phase
2) Telescopic phase

5 things which make a business startup successful are

1- Make meaning
2- Make mantra
3- Get going
4- Business model
5- Weave mat

**************
The 13 Lessons From The Art of Start 2.0

Getting into the specifics, the book is structured into 13 separate chapters, so here are 13 business lessons to learn from The Art of Start 2.0:

1. The Art of Starting Up

To start things right, don’t start with megalomania-cal goals. Instead, ask simple questions such as:
  • Isn’t this interesting?
  • Is there a better way?
  • Where is the market leader weak?
Then find the sweet spot at the intersection of your expertise, passion and opportunity.
In most entrepreneurship books you learn to think about the resources you need to start your business, about the resilience you need in the face of endless challenges and so on. However, you can’t possibly anticipate everything.
A key question to ask is “How do I make meaning?”, because “If you make meaning, you’ll probably also make money”.
Then based on this, create a three-to-five word “mantra” to inspire you and your team. For example, for Nike this would be “Authentic athletic performance”.
Then pick a business model and weave a MATT, which stands for Milestones, Assumptions, Tests and Tasks.

2. The Art of Launching

At a very early stage in your business, make a prototype and put it in the hands of your prospects. Don’t over-analyse theoretical aspects. Go for what Eric Ries calls an MVP (minimum viable product).
Worry first about adoption, not scaling.
Then it’s time to craft your positioning. Create ONE message, that captures the essence of your company.
Create a story around your product. It’s not about providing information, but about inspiring faith in you and your product.

3. The Art of Leading

Exude optimism, but watch reality right in the face. You need to establish a culture of execution, building an organization engineered to deliver results. Hire people better than you and empower them to maximize the use of their strengths.
Stay flexible, positive and celebrate success!

4. The Art of Bootstrapping

Bootstrapping a startup today is more possible than in any other time in history. You can capitalize on the cloud, under-staff in the beginning and focus strategically on the big areas that move the needle in your business.

5. The Art of Fund-raising

Focus on building a sound business and assess wisely the various funding opportunities. Then once you get funded, spend money like you would never be able to get funding again. Don’t go wild over-spending on nice furniture, free food and hiring expensive MBAs from big companies.

6. The Art of Pitching

Your audience has already been exposed to many pitches. In order to succeed, be short and to the point. Know your audience, prepare exhaustively and if possible, include a product demo.

7. The Art of Building a Team

Hire great people that are true believers, like you.
While intuition has its place, make sure that you follow a data-based hiring process: check references early, prepare interview questions in advance and stick to your script, collect adequate data and take notes for future reference.

8. The Art of Evangelizing

As a side note, Guy was Chief Evangelist at Apple and he’s the current Chief Evangelist of Canva, so he knows a thing or two about this topic.

“Evangelism” comes from Greek and has the meaning of “proclaiming the good news”. This is much easier to do when you actually have a great product that you believe in. So take care of the fundamentals first!

9. The Art of Socialising

Social Media is a very valuable tools for entrepreneurs, as it enables you to reach a big audience at no cost.

However, this doesn’t mean it’s easy.
The biggest challenge you face is “feeding the content monster”. Guy shares a number of practical tips on how to leverage the 2 main ways to do this, i.e. content creation and content curation.
Remember to be visual!
And it’s OK to leverage smart automation to maximize your ROI.

10. The Art of Rainmaking
