This book is ideally suited for a management consultant in the 1990s. The technology is outdated (think business cards, rolodex, etc.), and some of the advice and writing style comes across as trite and slightly elitist. Also, the abundance of alliteration gets pretty annoying by about tip number 50.
That being said, the book is a good refresher for common sense social skills, and the author identifies some interesting lesser-known subconscious cues that could be really useful if mastered.
HOW TO TALK TO ANYONE (Part 1)/ COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Technique no 1 : the flooding smile
Whether you are talking to someone or not, always keep a smile on your face this
will increase your Attractiveness,
confidence and on the other hand it will decrease your stress and blood
pressure so as to improve your health. A flooding smile is not a quick smile
but a slow smile which should be given after looking at a person’s face with a
pause and the smile.
Technique no 2 : the sticky eyes
A common mistake people make is look here and
there while talking to people which gives a signal to others that you are not
interested. Which no one likes. So while talking make eye contact to improve
your bonding and relations.
Technique no 10 : match the mood
If someone is having a bad mood then don't go and talk with high mood or full excitement instead match your mood with them and then increase your and their mood level slowly .
Technique no 15 – 17 : never the naked job, city and introduction
Never
give a one line reply to people. For the common questions like what do you do? Where
do you live? Say something more than just the answer meaning try to find
interesting facts and things which you can say with the name of your place
which will the conversation continue. Same with profession
Technique no 20 : parroting
Most of
the time people don't require a great reply to continue the conversation any
reply can just fuel them to speak. So because of parroting is a really simple
way to fulfill that need and keep the conversation going.
